Employment Income Assistance (EIA) - How to Apply

Manitoba previously provided financial assistance to Ukrainians arriving under CUAET through the Temporary Assistance Program (TAP).

· TAP will end on March 31, 2023, and as of April 1, 2023, those requiring financial support will be able to apply to the Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) income support program.

· Households currently on TAP will be contacted to be screened for booking a potential EIA intake appointment, either with a Ukrainian speaking staff member, or with the support of an interpreter if required.

· Also effective April 1, 2023, new Ukrainian CUAET arrivals to Manitoba will be able to contact EIA via the TAP phone number: 204-945-5324 or the TAP email address: TAP@gov.mb.ca for initial screening and booking of an EIA intake appointment.

· New Ukrainian CUAET arrivals will continue to receive free hotel accommodations and food for up to 30 days when they arrive in Winnipeg and can apply for EIA once they have secured permanent accommodations and are exiting the hotel if they do not have funds to support their basic needs.

· The EIA program provides financial help to families in Manitoba who have no other way to support themselves. This includes benefits to help you with the cost of things like food, shelter, clothing, personal and household needs, basic dental, optical and prescription drugs, and health-related supplies or equipment not provided by other programs. For people who are able to work, EIA will help them work by providing supports to employment.

Step 1: Submit Your Application

To apply for EIA in Manitoba, you can visit a local Manitoba Employment and Income Assistance office, call the toll-free number, or download the application form from the Manitoba government website. Once you have completed the application form and gathered the required documentation, you can submit your application to the nearest Manitoba Employment and Income Assistance office.

Step 2: Attend an Interview

After you have submitted your application, you will be contacted by a caseworker to schedule an interview. During the interview, you will be asked questions about your financial situation and your need for support. The caseworker will also provide you with information about the program and any other resources that may be available to you.

Step 3: Receive a Decision

After the interview, the caseworker will review your application and make a decision about your eligibility for EIA. If you are approved for EIA, you will receive a monthly allowance to help meet your basic needs. If you are not approved, you will receive a letter explaining the reason for the decision and any next steps that you can take.

In conclusion, applying for Employment Income Assistance in Manitoba is a straightforward process that can help provide financial support to those who need it most. By determining your eligibility, gathering the required documentation, submitting your application, attending an interview, and receiving a decision, you can access the financial assistance and resources that can help you meet your basic needs and improve your overall quality of life.
